The Battle of Kings Mountain took place on October 7, 1780. Kings Mountain National Military Park will celebrate the 238th Anniversary of the Battle of Kings Mountain this weekend on October 6 and 7. Join them as they take a step back in time for this little-known piece of history!
Throughout the year, the Kings Mountain Backcountry Militia, along with other revolutionary war demonstration groups, hold special events showcasing militia service, weapons, equipment, and life skills such as leatherworking, blacksmithing, and woodworking – as it would have been in the 1700’s.
On October 6-7, camps are open from 9 AM to 5 PM with a variety of demonstrations (trades & crafts, cooking, weapons, children’s activities, etc.). The kids area is open 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM with a scheduled activity every hour.
Guided lantern tours will be held on the battlefield on Saturday from 7 PM until 8 PM. Reservations are required for the lantern tour; please call 864-936-7921 or stop by the Visitors Center at Kings Mountain.
On October 7, a wreath laying ceremony at the US Monument will take place – honoring those who fought in the battle. There will be a program in the amphitheater at 3 PM (the time the battle began).
