Seventeen African American Veterans, who served in combat in foreign lands as members of the United States Military, founded the Gray-Corkerell Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3746 on September 8, 1938. Through the years, the post has provided service, support and companionship for hundreds of veterans after their separation from the Military. Several generations have given life to the VFW ritual, for it solemnly binds young and old in the brother/sisterhood of men and women who have fought for America – on land, on sea and in the air.
Veterans who experienced combat in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf Wars comprise the membership today. We are honored to have members in our ranks that served with Montford Point Marines and the Red Ball Express in World War II.
Harry McFadden, Immediate Past Commander for South Carolina, will be the speaker. Families of our founding members and our World War II Veterans will be honored.
Doors open at 5:30 PM with the program beginning at 6 PM.
