To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the end of the “War Between the States,” living historian Colleen L. (Kaphengst) Pappas will discuss the effects of the war on women and families in our state, the living conditions at the end of the war, the social, cultural, and political changes brought about by the conflict, mourning customs, and the important events at war’s end that took place in Fort Mill, Cross Keys, and Abbeville, SC. Mrs. Pappas has been a War Between the States scholar for over 40 years, and a living historian for 18. She is a member of the Carolina Ladies’ Aid Society, a statewide women’s living history organization, and the 6th SCV, a local War Between the States living history group.
